Goodland

Goodland is a seedling of Patten Greening.  It was developed at the Canadian Department of Agriculture Morden Experimental Research Farm in Manitoba.  It was selected for its hardiness in 1925 and named and introduced 30 years later.  The apples bred in this program can be identified by the "land" tackedonto the end of every varietal name that they released which leads to a lot of confusion.

The medium-sized, round fruit has a yellow-green base that is washed with red.  The flesh is crisp and juicy and tender.  While it is good for fresh eating, it also makes an aromatic sauce.
