Collecting apples for the Fair, September, 2026

Today it was a trip to the The Apple Farm in Fairfield to collect specimens for the Common Ground Fair apple display. The annual display is one of the most popular exhibits at The Fair. When the collecting is done it will include 300-400 cultivars, including species apples from around the world, local roadside discoveries, old heirloom favorites and everything in between.

The Apple Farm orchards slope to the east and the west and have multi-million dollar views in both directions. It was fun to be back there where we were greeted by the owners Marilyn and Steve Myerhans and our neighbor and former CSA crew member Lauren Cormier who now runs their packing line, as well as by the store crew and the Jamaican picking crew. We have spent many hours at the Apple Farm over the years topworking trees, picking apples for our CSA and hanging out with Steve and Marilyn that It felt like old home week.
