I sprayed the plums with “Surround.” The temperatures are warming up, and this week will see the first big attack of the dreaded Plum Curculio. The expectation is that the Surround (refined clay powder) irritates the “curcs” when they walk in the powder. They get discouraged and dejected and go back to the woods. Go home, young Curcs!
Although a few late-blooming apples are just starting to open, most of apples are now at Petal Fall. The old adage is that you “plant corn when the apple blossoms fall in the furrows.” Right on cue, Cammy planted the corn. She starts them in seedling trays and then sets them out as small plants. We’ve done that for several years now, and they do much better than from direct seed.
