Turley  (also called Turley Winesap)

Seedling of Winesap discovered in Lawrence County Indiana, introduced in 1922. Uncommon commercial variety we found growing at Mt. Nebo Orchard in Mt. Vernon. This is not Winesap but it does have some similarities. Large solid-red fruit. The tree at Mt. Nebo is about 30 years old. Appears to be hardy in central Maine. The crew enjoyed eating it fresh, finding it to be juicy, crisp, and tastier than its parent Winesap.
