scout
Scout is our most outstanding dessert (fresh eating) introduction. We started seed of Frostbite (MN 447) in about 2010, planted the original tree in the spring of 2013 at our Finley Lane Orchard and ate fruit for the first time in 2021. The medium-large sized, roundish-conic fruit is larger than Frostbite, and almost entirely rusty-red. It ripens at the end of October in central Maine. The tree is also considerably more vigorous than Frostbite. We entered Scout in the third annual Wild Apple Exhibition where it won first prize for best quality fresh eating. You can read more about Scout in the Wild Apple Exhibition Pomological Series Vol. 3, p. 71. Scionwood from our original seedling tree.
