thomas hunt
This extremely rare, historic English cider apple from Somerset was collected by UK pomologist John Teiser at Field Farm Bank Orchard at Hampton Bishop in Hereford, the site of an old Bulmer’s Cider trial orchard. There is some speculation that it might have been introduced by or named for a nurseryman named Thomas Hunt from Stratford on Avon in the early 1800’s, although there is no firm evidence to that effect. The fruit is late-ripening, slightly tannic, very low-acid, and “sweet”. The fruit is medium-sized, yellowish-green and about half-covered with russet. Imported to the US through the USDA APHIS program. SCF is only source of scionwood or trees in the US.
