willow pond pineapple
This rare, late-season, yellow, dessert apple from Willow Pond Farm in Sebattus, ME (Androscoggin County) was introduced to us by June Kenlan. It’s unclear if it’s an old grafted limb or possibly an old rootstock branch. June has some thought that it might be Bailey’s Golden, a Maine historic cultivar from Sidney (Kennebec County). According to June the flavor is distinctly Pineapple, “It occurred to me that anyone at that time in Maine probably had no idea what a pineapple tasted like although that flavor was very strong to us tasting it now!” We will have it DNA profiled in 2026.
