st. laurent
This rare, French cider apple is currently available in the US only through SCF. The scionwood was collected by John Teiser who wrote to us, “St. Laurent is an old French variety, and is very similar in appearance to Marseigna. Both are shown in Boré and Fleckinger [pommiers a cidre 1997]. Bulmers imported our accession as St. Laurent, but INRA have it as Marseigna, a later French variety. I'm not totally convinced that they are correct, but I don't have enough evidence to challenge their decision, so I submitted the variety to FruitId this year as Marseigna, but also known as St. Laurent in the UK.”
The fruit is ovate-conic, red-striped, tender, sweet, and slightly bitter. Although we have not yet had fruit, we think it will ripen early-mid-season. We imported St. Laurent in collaboration with the USDA APHIS program. Currently on trial at SCF. Scionwood from John Teiser.
